Common questions

  • Do I need a referral to start treatment?
No. You can call us directly. We work with referring therapists, primary care, EAPs, and hospital discharge teams, but a referral is never required to start.
  • How long does it take to start a program?
Most people complete their first call, clinical assessment, and start of programming within 1–3 business days. The clinical assessment itself is typically scheduled within 3–5 business days of initial contact.
  • How does insurance verification work?
Share photos of the front and back of your insurance card with our admissions team. We call your carrier, verify mental health and substance use benefits, and send you a one-page summary in plain English of what is covered and what you can expect to owe. Verification is free and confidential, with no commitment.
  • What kinds of insurance plans do you typically work with?
PPO and POS plans usually have the broadest coverage. EPO and HMO plans typically require in-network providers or a primary-care referral; we verify your specific plan before recommending a path. We also accept self-pay and provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement.
  • What is the difference between PHP and IOP?
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is a full-day program, typically 5 hours per day, 5 days per week, with no overnight stay. Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is 9 hours per week, typically 3 evenings of 3-hour sessions. PHP is for higher acuity or post-discharge stabilization; IOP is designed to fit around work, school, or caregiving.
  • Do you treat substance use disorder?
Yes, as part of integrated dual-diagnosis treatment. We treat substance use alongside mental health conditions (depression, anxiety, trauma, bipolar) by the same team in the same program. We are not a medical detox; if you need supervised withdrawal, we will refer you to a detox partner first.
  • Do you treat adolescents or children?
No. We treat adults (18+) only. Mixed-age programming dilutes clinical care for both groups, so we specialize in adult treatment.
  • Is treatment confidential?
Yes. Your records and the fact of your treatment are protected by HIPAA. Substance use records receive additional protection under federal regulation 42 CFR Part 2. We do not share information with your employer, family, or anyone else without your written consent.
  • What happens on the first day?
Day one is intentionally low-stakes. You check in, complete a welcome session, meet with a psychiatrist or psychiatric NP for a 60–90 minute evaluation, meet with a licensed therapist for a psychosocial assessment, and review your initial treatment plan. You do not typically join an active group on day one. See our full What to Expect page for details.
  • Do you offer telehealth?
Yes — our Virtual IOP delivers the same Intensive Outpatient curriculum via secure video for California residents. State licensure rules require that each clinician be licensed in the state where you are physically located during a session, so we verify residency at intake.
  • How much does treatment cost?
With PPO or POS insurance, most patients pay deductible plus copay or coinsurance for PHP and IOP. Your exact cost depends on your plan. We verify benefits free of charge and tell you what you will likely owe before you commit. Self-pay rates are available on request; ask about payment plans.
  • What if I am in a crisis right now?
We are not a 24/7 crisis service. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. If you are in a mental health crisis, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline). For substance use, SAMHSA's National Helpline at 1-800-662-4357 is free and confidential 24/7.
