Carlsbad · Virtual IOP
For most Carlsbad residents who work with us, Virtual IOP is the level of care they land on by design, not because nothing else was available. Our only facility sits about 41 miles north in Laguna Hills, across the San Diego–Orange county line, so instead of asking North County residents to drive I-5 several evenings a week, we deliver the complete Intensive Outpatient program over secure video — the same clinicians, the same groups, the same schedule — to anyone attending from within California.

Virtual IOP is the same IOP curriculum delivered via secure video for California residents. It runs 3 evenings/week via secure video, and is one of four levels of care we offer along a continuum from full-day PHP down to weekly aftercare.
Carlsbad runs on industries built for remote work: biotech and life sciences employers like Thermo Fisher and Ionis, telecom at Viasat, golf-equipment manufacturing, and a large tourism and hospitality base. For a lab scientist mid-project, a remote-friendly professional in Bressi Ranch or Aviara, or a hospitality worker on a shifting schedule, a fixed in-person commitment 41 miles north — 50 to 80 minutes each way through the Camp Pendleton corridor at peak — is simply not realistic. Virtual IOP takes that drive off the table while holding the clinical intensity steady, and because every Carlsbad resident attends from inside California, state telehealth licensure is satisfied without anyone leaving North County.
Three evenings a week, about nine hours of clinical care in total, the Virtual IOP schedule mirrors what happens in our Laguna Hills rooms — Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills groups, process groups, and weekly individual sessions are all carried over intact. Psychiatric medication management happens by secure telehealth as well, so a Carlsbad resident can complete an entire episode of care, from intake through step-down, without driving to Orange County.
The flexibility matters most for the population Carlsbad is built around. This is an affluent, older-skewing coastal city where the workforce already lives in video meetings, and where the practical obstacle to treatment is rarely motivation — it is the hour-plus freeway trip. A biotech researcher near the GIA and life-sciences corridor, a professional working from home in La Costa, or a parent in Calavera Hills can all attend from a private room without rearranging an entire evening around I-5. When you call, our admissions team can talk through schedule fit and confirm telehealth is the right level of care.
Mental-health symptoms and substance use are worked through side by side here, which is why dual-diagnosis care lives inside Virtual IOP under one team instead of being handed off to an outside referral. We confirm at intake that telehealth is clinically appropriate for your situation — higher-acuity needs, including medically supervised detox or stabilization, may require an in-person program first, and we are honest with you about that and coordinate the referral. We are an outpatient provider, not a 24/7 crisis service; for emergencies Carlsbad residents should call 911 or 988, or the San Diego County Access & Crisis Line at 888-724-7240.
Virtual IOP runs 3 evenings/week via secure video. The same IOP curriculum delivered via secure video for California residents. Manifest is an outpatient program — not a medical detox or residential facility; when supervised withdrawal is needed first, we coordinate a referral. Insurance verification is free and confidential, and no referral is required to begin.
Virtual IOP is part of a connected continuum of care. Many adults move between levels as their needs change — stepping up to Virtual IOP from weekly therapy, or stepping down to it after a more intensive level. You can read the full program details on our Virtual IOP page.
In crisis? Call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, 24/7) or 911 for an emergency.
