Depression
Major depressive disorder, persistent depressive disorder, and treatment-resistant depression.
Seal Beach · Virtual IOP
Virtual IOP is usually the most practical level of care for Seal Beach, and the reason is the city itself: with close to half of residents 65 or older and a third living inside Leisure World, the population most in need of structured treatment is also the one least able to drive 33 minutes down the freeway three evenings a week. Virtual IOP delivers our full Intensive Outpatient curriculum by secure video, attended from a Leisure World unit or an Old Town living room.

Virtual IOP is the same IOP curriculum delivered via secure video for California residents. It runs 3 evenings/week via secure video, and is one of four levels of care we offer along a continuum from full-day PHP down to weekly aftercare.
Mobility is the deciding factor here in a way it is not for younger inland cities. Many Seal Beach residents have stopped driving the I-405 comfortably, or never relished it, and a Leisure World resident managing late-life depression should not have to choose between treatment and independence. Virtual IOP keeps the clinical intensity intact while erasing the commute, and California licensure is satisfied because residents simply attend from within the state — which every Seal Beach resident does.
For older adults in Leisure World, the same isolation that drives much of late-life depression can also make leaving home for treatment feel like one obstacle too many. Virtual IOP turns that around: the group sessions that directly counter isolation come to the resident, on a screen in a familiar room, with no parking, no freeway, and no need to explain an absence to neighbors on the way out the door.
The format fits Seal Beach’s family caregivers just as well. An adult child supporting a parent across town — or across the country — can attend the same three-evenings-a-week program from wherever they are in California, without abandoning the person they are caring for. For Navy-connected families and military retirees managing moves, deployments, or VA appointments, that location flexibility removes a barrier that a fixed in-person schedule would create.
Nothing clinical is lost on screen: Virtual IOP carries the full curriculum — CBT and DBT skills groups, process groups, and individual sessions — and when grief or anxiety has become entwined with alcohol use, a pattern that hides easily in later life, the same team treats the mental-health and substance-use sides side by side rather than handing them off. We confirm at intake that telehealth is the right level of care; when an older adult’s situation calls for closer medical contact, we coordinate with UCI Health — Los Alamitos and discuss whether in-person care should come first.
Virtual IOP runs 3 evenings/week via secure video. The same IOP curriculum delivered via secure video for California residents. Manifest is an outpatient program — not a medical detox or residential facility; when supervised withdrawal is needed first, we coordinate a referral. Insurance verification is free and confidential, and no referral is required to begin.
Virtual IOP is part of a connected continuum of care. Many adults move between levels as their needs change — stepping up to Virtual IOP from weekly therapy, or stepping down to it after a more intensive level. You can read the full program details on our Virtual IOP page.
